Sub Work from Friday, 10/4

After speaking with each of you today, the following is clear:

Period 3:
Only got 1 of the 4 sheets due to sub error.

Period 4:
No issues with any of the 4 sheets.

Period 5:
No issues with the 4 sheets, but many of you had issues arriving to class because of the hallway shenanigans.  You guess of 15-20 minutes late from the chaos seems to be accurate from what I found after your class today.

While my instructions were super clear, it isn't your fault, Per 3, that you were not given the full assignment.  The sub has admitted this.  And Per 5, based on the stories & confirmations I heard I understand that many of you had very limited time to complete the assignments through no fault of your own.

For this reason, I am not going to issue grades for Friday's sub work.  There is no fair way to give Per 3 a grade for work they did not get, and n fair way to give some of Per 5 a grade when they couldn't get to class.

That said, please remember what we discussed today.  There should be no phones out, no earbuds in, no changing seats, silent & independent work only.  You should be to class on time (which includes f you are allowed that extra minute or two that I give you...but the sub doesn't have to do that...so if they don't, go to late hall & get a pass, no arguing.)  All work is always collected, so be sure to turn in your completed work at the end of the period.

RAK Wall Reminders

Just a reminder that the "RAK Wall" is open for business any day I'm in school.  See the original post for details.  You can take an index card before the stat of class & return it either at the end of class OR the next day.  Remember your kind deed does not have to take place in school, but it would be nice if it did!

PSAT/SAT Day is October 16th!

Remember, Wednesday 10/16 is a regular school day...and you will take the PSAT if in 11th grade or the SAT if in 12th grade
(goes by credits earned.)

My understanding is the PSAT you $17 while the SAT costs $50-65.  The District is paying these fees for EVERYONE.  This is NOT a "blow off school day."  This is an opportunity to take these exams for FREE.

You are required to bring pencils & a calculator to the exam.  Very few pencils will be available and no calculators will be provided for the PSAT (they WILL give you a calculator to use if you are a 12th grader taking the SAT.)  If you do not bring a calculator to the PSAT, you will not have one for the math portion of the exam.

This is a GREAT opportunity to see where your weakness is - if you have any - & start to work toward a higher score for the SAT.

You will be released after the exam is over and "regular buses" will take you home.  Be on the lookout for a letter sent home by Mr. Callan & those annoying "robo calls" to remind you of what to do.  Pay attention to you 1st & 2nd period teachers Thursday as they will have your room assignments for the exam.

DUE: Tuesday, 10/15 Signed Thinkwave Printout

You will receive a Thinkwave print out in class on Thursday, 10/10.  You are required to return it to me on Tuesday, 10/15.  It must be signed by your parent/guardian.

There are no outstanding grades for US as of this posting.  If I had to enter report card grades tomorrow, the average in Thinkwave right now is what you have earned.  This is what was used for your progress reports.

This will count as a test grade: 0 or 100.  You have it on 10/15: 100.  It isn't turned in signed on 10/15, 0.

If you are absent Thursday you will have to print out your student summary grade report, with all grades & current average, on your own as these sheets will only be available Thursday in class.  You are not exempt & the deadline will not be extended.

Based on your average you fall into one of 2 categories:
#1:  Keep up the great work!  Your hard work, time & effort really shows & is paying off!

#2: You need a "Plan B," since your plan is not leading you to success.  You cannot pass without being in class, doing your HW, making up work when absent, or studying.  Fix it NOW before it is too late!

I hope you fall into Category #1!  If not, change your ways so you do!

I got an email from your sub...

For the first time ever, I received an email from a sub today.

Please self-reflect & be prepared to discuss whatever took place in your class today on Monday.  As you can imagine, if a sub went through the trouble of finding my email instead of just leaving a note for me to read Monday, it wasn't something I was pleased to read.

See you Monday...
