Thinkwave & Online Exams

Your Thinkwave averages are now updated & current through work due today, 5/28.

For those of you not doing the online exams, you are:

  • Getting absolutely no review because you aren't even looking at the exam questions, and you need it THE MOST if you've done no HW
  • Setting yourself up for a very low 4th MP average
  • Setting yourself up for failing the course, which you will be required to repeat before moving on to 12th grade Govt or Eco
  • Failing the Regents Exam since, as mentioned, you have done little, at most, to prepare yourself for the exam which, again, is required for graduation.

As a reminder, you get no extra credit for review time when you don;t complete your work, and that includes online exams, video worksheets, review HW (including all directions followed.)  SO if you didn't do work that closed on 5/24, 5/25, or 5/26, don't expect any extra credit for review time on 5/23.  Same is true for the remaining 2 reviews.

And you are out of time to blow off assignments.  Your 4th MP grades end on 6/17.  What you've done, good or bad, is finished in just 20 days.  If you continue to miss or fail online exams, you will end up failing the course/Regents.

ALSO DUE 5/29: Signed Thinkwave Sheet

Thinkwave printouts were handed out in class on Thursday, 5/23.  They are due back, signed, at the start of class on Wednesday, 5/29.  They are to be in the dark blue bin by the start of class, just like HW.  Late sheets will not be accepted for credit.

If you were not in class on 5/23, you must print out the entire 4th MP of your grades & have your parent/guardian sign it.  Not one page, not a summary sheet, all of your 4th MP grades.  Failure to do this will lead to a total loss of credit.  It is due 5/29, same as everyone else.  No extension will be given.

There were some entries made after review Thursday, so the sheet you have may not necessarily be your current average.  However, all HW & classwork up to & including 5/23 was entered into Thinkwave before I left.  Video sheets turned in were not entered.

May 31 Regents Review CANCELED

No matter how many times I asked, or how may ways I did it, many (not all of you) of the kids who attended review on 5/23 were remarkably inconsiderate with the noise level despite being told repeatedly that the Global kids were trying to concentrate on Part Is (multiple choice) & analyzing documents.  There were so many that created this that the Global kids literally expressed how rude & inconsiderate the other kids were, especially since their exam was weeks away & this was the 2nd to last review before Global.

As a result, your review on 5/31 is canceled.  The new Common Core Global Regents the 10th graders face is on June 3rd, and I simply won;t risk them being unable to concentrate the very last time they meet for review.

Your remaining 2 reviews will be June 7th & 14th.  There will be no review the night before your Regents Exam.

Sign up for June 7th will begin at 6:45 am on Friday, May 31st, and will end on Wednesday, June 5th.  That's only 2 days to sign up since you are off from school June 3rd & 4th.

Only 36 spots will be available.  I have 90 of you.  Sign up early if you want or need to attend.

If you signed up for but blew off review on 5/23, you are not welcome to attend on June 7th.

In-Class Practice Exams

In-class practice Regents Exams have no make-ups.  They are classwork grades.

If you are legally absent from school, you are exempt.  If you are not, it is a 0.  Field trips you elect to go on, music lessons, etc. are not legal absences from a Regents class at this time.   You have 12 classes remaining.  If you choose to miss class & we do an exam, you have also chosen your consequence.

THIS REVIEW HAS BEEN CANCELED

There will only be 1 day to sign up for the 5/31 Friday Regents Review.  Those at Friday review get first chance to sign up, & the remaining spaces open up on the following Monday & end Wednesday.  However, we are off this Monday & Tuesday, leaving only Wednesday for you to sign up (unless you are at review on 5/23, you can also sign up that night.)

There are just 3 reviews remaining.  Look at your score, & decide if a few Fridays at review is worth it compared to 6 weeks in summer school, or 40 weeks back in the same course...

Watch your due dates!!!

Please be sure you are doing the exam that closes in the shortest period of time.  All of your online practice exams will open on the same day, but they each close on a different day.

THIS WEEK ONLY!

If you are in good standing for this week & sign up for review TOMORROW (Tuesday, 5/14) I will give you TRIPLE EXTRA CREDIT POINTS for this week only!  (That's 10.5 points added directly to your average for this week alone, for those of you skipping Math Regents Review...)

This offer will NOT be extended past your class period tomorrow.  There are only 15 spots left.  Come to 1823 before 7:15 tomorrow morning if you want to be sure you get one of those spots.

As a little side bonus for those of you already signed up...people in good standing will get an extra 2 points (so 12.5), people not in good standing will get the regular extra credit deal above.

Failing? Read me...

Anyone who gets an 85 or better 4th MP average AND a 90 or better on the Regents Exam will receive a passing grade for the course.  For some, this is your very last chance to earn course credit & avoid summer school or repeating the course next year.  As a reminder, you do not pass the course just because you pass the Regents Exam.

Here is the quote from NYS regarding this, & the link for the state website:
In accordance with Section 100.5(a)(5)(v) of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education (http://www.p12.nysed.gov/part100/home.html), passing the Regents Exam in a subject shall not be construed as having earned a unit of credit in that subject unless the student also passes the course as offered in a registered high school.

Thinkwave, Averages, & 5/10 Review

If you were legally absent today, you have until Wednesday, 5/8 to make up the 2 HWQs your classmates had today.  You must take the actual quiz, not just show me the notes.  Both take roughly 20-25 minutes, depending on how quickly you write.

5.  Chronic & habitual cutters will receive no credit for online exams.  You must be in class regularly to receive credit.  You will NOT be allowed to earn grades while cutting, since any exam given in class you'd also likely cut (based on your current behavior.)

Chapter 26 Online Exam

Your Chapter 26 Exam is live since.  It will close on Monday, 5/13 at 3 pm.  It is posted in Castle Learning.

Your Chapter 26 video packet(s) is due no later than the start of class on Monday, 5/13.  It will not be accepted late since you had weeks to complete & turn in.  If you procrastinated despite weeks of warnings of getting it done & then are absent on 5/13, that's the consequence of your actions.

A few reminders about your online exams:
1.  There is no make up exam.  You do it online by the time is closes or you miss the exam & will receive a grade of 0.
2.  You can do the exam at school on your free period OR after school when the library is open.  If you need a pass, please bring your agenda book.
3.  "First try only" counts, no partial credit for 2nd choices...because the Regents has & will never work that way.
4.  Any unfinished portion of the exam once it is locked will be like not finishing am exam in class - anything left unanswered will be marked wrong.
5.  Chronic & habitual cutters will receive no credit for online exams.  You must be in class regularly to receive credit.  You will NOT be allowed to earn grades while cutting, since any exam given in class you'd also likely cut (based on your current behavior.)

HW Collection Policy Change: Read This So You Don't Lose Credit

I'm tired of the shady & the nonsense that has been going on over the last several weeks.  Isolated issues with the Chapter 23 packet are the last straw & have caused a change in HW & class policy, effective immediately.  Policy & procedure from this posting until the end of the year is as follows:

  • Work due to be turned in must be put in the bin prior to the start of class.  This includes video packets, vocabulary, & anything else that you must turn in.
    • "Bin" is defined as the dark blue bin on the desk in 1823 for Period 3, & the HW bin that will be set up on the "handout table" for Periods 4 & 5.
    • "Start of class" is defined as when I shut the door.
  • I will no longer collect HW that is passed up, & I will no longer ask for you to pass up work.
  • Late work will continue to not be accepted, and anything not in the HW bin by the start of class will be considered late, as had always been policy.
  • Work you wish to turn in early follows this same procedure.
  • There will be no getting up during class to turn in work, there will be no HW submitted for credit at the end of the period.  Have the work due ready to submit when you walk in.

For those of you unfairly affected by the above for Chapter 23 I apologize, but this is on your peers.  Still, I am not going to count the packet to be fair to you.  However, if you turned it in early, it will be counted as extra credit if it was fully completed.

Extra, Extra Extra-Credit: Nothing else will be offered this year!

If you clicked to read this post, be sure you read it all the way to the end.
Reminder:
You only get the "extra" extra credit if you meet all the requirements for the week AND attend MY Friday review for that same week.  If you do not attend MY review that week, OR you do not meet the qualification as stated, there is no extra credit and certainly no "extra" extra credit.  See this post:

In other words, if you are late any day, absent any day, do not have the work due OR work needed on any day during the week, you are disqualified from extra points.  You are HIGHLY encouraged to attend review anyway, whether that is my Friday review or Dept. offered review (list has been posted in classroom since before break.)  If you DO meet those conditions but do not attend MY Friday review, there are no extra credit points given.  Please re-read the link above, which states this clearly.

Now...just to make it more enticing for you to be prepared & attend review sessions, here's something extra-extra:

OPPORTUNITY #1:
IF you meet all the conditions above, including my Friday review for that week, and you attend a SATURDAY review, you will get DOUBLE POINTS.  You must be there ON TIME, and you must stay for the ENTIRE review.  You slip must be signed by the teacher stating that you were on time & stayed until the end, or it will not be accepted.  This is your job to do and is NOT stated on the regular slips you will need to get filled out.  You can get the slip needed from me the Friday before your review, tell me before your class starts.  I will not be able to get a slip for you after class & will not entertain disruptions about this during class. To be clear, the "Saturday" is the day AFTER the Friday review, not a week later.

All slips must be turned in the Monday after review to be accepted.  Any slips turned in late will not be honored & no points will be granted.

OPPORTUNITY #2:
IF you meet all the conditions above, including my Friday review for that week, & you attend 3 hours of  Dept. review in any given week (can be split up over the week but must total 3 hours) I will DOUBLE MY review points for Friday of that week.  You can get the slip needed from me the day of your review, tell me before your class starts.  I will not be able to get a slip for you after class & will not entertain disruptions about this during class.

All slips must be turned in at the start of your class the day after the review to be accepted.  Any slips turned in late will not be honored & no points will be granted.

Extra extra-credit

To reward those who are doing their work & all they can to get the best possible average & Regents Exam score, the following offer is being extended:

If you meet all of the requirements in this post:
https://mrsramoglobal2.blogspot.com/2019/04/after-school-regents-review-extra-credit.html

AND you attend my Friday reviews, I will give you one point per our of review you go to for Global that week with any other teacher.  You must ask me for a slip the day of the review at the start of class - you & that teacher must complete the slip & turn it in the next day.

Let me be clear:
1.  You must ask for the extra credit slip before your class starts on the day you are attending review.  None will be handed out at the end of class due to switching rooms.
2.  You must turn it in the following day by the start of your class period.  None will be accepted late even for absences.  You have no time left to be absent.
3.  You must be signed up for & attend my Friday review that week for any extra credit to count, and all conditions of the Friday review must be met.
4. You must meet all conditions for earning the extra credit for my review, including being in "good standing" for that week.
5.  Failure to meet any of these will result in no points being granted.

As of this post, only 12 spots remain for the 5/10 review

Just a head's up, there are only 12 spots left for this Friday's Regents Review.

You can come before 7:15 to 1823 to sign up if you are concerned all spots will be gone by your class period.

If you signed up for 5/3 & then failed to show up, you cannot sign up at this time.  Read the post that addresses this issue for more details.

Signed up for review but don't attend? Read me.

As of last night, there are only 12 spots remaining for the review on Friday, 5/10.

If you signed up but failed to show up for review yesterday, 5/3, you cannot sign up for this week's review until Wednesday, 5/8, if there are spots left.

If you sign up & blow off review once, you are wait-listed for future reviews.

If you sign up & don't show a second time, you remove yourself from any future extra credit opportunity and can longer sign up for my reviews.

You made a commitment.  Honor it.

After School Review & Extra Credit Points

The definition of "good standing" is: in class every day, on time, have HW due daily, all assignments for the week completed & having your required Regents Review Supplies.

If you are in good standing for the week and have signed up for and attend review, I will give you 1 extra credit point per hour of review.  Review goes from 2-5:15.  If you are on time, that means 3.5 points per review.  These points will be added to your 4th MP average at the end of the course.

Let's be clear:
If you are late to review, you lose the credit for that week.
If you leave  review early, you lose the credit for that week.
If you are not in good standing for the week, you lose the credit for that week (but if you are not in good standing, you are in special danger of failing & need to come to review just to pass the Regents.)

You regain eligibility the following Monday...so you have the same chance to earn those extra credit points all over again.

Haven't signed up for the 5/10 review yet?  You should.  Good Standing for that review starts 5/6, & all work due that week.  Notes, Video Packets, Online Exams, having your review supplies...

6 more reviews are being held...that's a potential 21 points added to your 4th MP grade.  And, if you are doing your work, your average should be decent...giving you the maximum opportunity to either pass or earn a great grade for the 4th MP to really boost your average...which may increase your chances of earning a college scholarship since our overall GPA will also go up.

MAKE GOOD DECISIONS!!!!
